Hospital admissions are sometimes also called Hospitalization or Inpatient Care. In general, there are two major types of hospital admissions, emergent and elective.
Emergent usually happens when a patient is seen in the urgent care department and is subsequently admitted to the hospital.
Elective hospital admissions occur when a patient is scheduled to be hospitalized on a specific day. The patient then checks in at the admissions office and does not go to the emergency department. This would be the case for planned surgeries or also Maternity.
Your doctor will explain to you why he recommends that you be admitted to the hospital for Inpatient treatment. After having all your questions answered and you agree with the recommendation, we must start the admission process.
You will be directed to the Billing and Admissions office or to the cashier. Our Admissions staff will guide you through the entire process so you don’t need to stress about this process.
They will confirm your address, telephone number, place of employment, and insurance information. Please have your insurance card(s) and proof of identification readily available. Financial arrangements for your care will be handled at this time if not previously done.
You will be asked to make a deposit. The quantity might vary depending on whether you are being hospitalized for medical or surgical treatment. If your health insurance does not cover the entire cost of your care, you will be asked to pay the remainder at the time services are rendered, or to work out special payment arrangements.
At La Loma Luz Adventist Hospital we offer you two different types of rooms: Regular and Private rooms.
Private rooms are equipped with more amenities like air conditioning and cable television. At this time you can choose a type of room if you haven’t done so already during the financial arrangements.
After making your financial arrangements, you will be assisted or directed to the Hospitalization area. This is where the rooms are located and you will be taken to your room.
After you are settled in your room a nurse will conduct what we call an admission interview. The nurse will ask you about your medical history and your current health status. The nurse may conduct some basic tests, such as taking your temperature and blood pressure and will ask questions about your health in preparation for your surgery or treatment.
If you are having surgery, an anesthesiologist, who is the doctor responsible for providing anesthesia for the duration of your surgery or procedure, may also ask you questions. Your surgeon may visit you too.
- Official photo-identification, such as a driver’s license or Social security card.
- A list of all your medications, doses, and times when they are to be taken
- Private Insurance information if you have extra coverage
- Your advanced directives, if you have one written
- A bag to hold your clothing
- Slippers that fit well and are non-slip
- Overnight personal care items including shampoo and toothbrush
- A denture cup for dentures
- If you are having gynecological surgery you may bring your own sanitary products if you prefer.
- Diapers and baby supplies if you are having a baby
- We suggest children may wish to bring a comfort item (teddy bear, etc.)
