Outpatient Nutrition Counseling
You can receive an individual session of nutrition education and counseling by our registered dietitian. This is the most effective means for implementing lifestyle changes. Through this session you can receive advice for a variety of needs including weight management, diabetes management, pregnancy and the basics of healthy eating.
During consultations, our registered dietitian can help you create a personal plan to meet your goals. We are here to answer your questions, provide education and offer suggestions on grocery shopping, reading nutrition labels, cooking tips and more.

Clinical (Inpatient) Nutrition Services
Good nutrition is a key component of recovering from surgery or illness. Our registered dietitian provides nutrition care, advice and education to patients while they are in the hospital.
Your physician may prescribe a therapeutic diet for you while you are in the hospital. A therapeutic diet is designed to help you get better by monitoring the types of foods you consume. If you are being discharged on a specific diet, our dietitian is available by request to provide diet education. Here are few common diets and what they mean to help guide your food choices.
Regular Diet: Patients on this diet may have all of the foods listed on the menu. There are no restrictions.
Mechanical Soft Diet: Foods are chopped or ground for easier chewing and safer swallowing. Raw vegetables and fruits are not allowed, except for bananas.
Puree Diet: All foods are pureed to a smooth consistency to promote swallowing safety and limit chewing. Menu items that cannot be safely pureed are not permitted.
Carbohydrate Controlled Diet: Patients are limited to a set number of carbohydrate (CHO) choices per meal, depending on the level prescribed, to promote blood glucose control. One carbohydrate choice contains 15 grams of carbohydrate.
Cardiac Diet: This diet limits overall fat (50g daily), cholesterol (300 mg daily), and sodium intake (2000 mg daily).
The cafeteria at La Loma Luz Adventist Hospital is also under the supervision of a registered dietitian to ensure that you receive only nutritious and delicious meals.
The cafeteria is open to serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
In addition, meals are available to family members who are unable to leave a patient’s room. Guest trays are brought to the patient’s room along with the patient’s meals. Please contact a nurse to arrange for this service and to assist you. You are also welcome to obtain your meal in the cafeteria and return to the patient’s room to eat with the patient.
